What if furniture were only there when you need it? Not as science fiction, but as a furnishing principle: flexible furniture adapts to your life – not the other way round. That is the whole idea behind AMBIVALENZ. The rest is execution.
Folding furniture: gone when you don’t need it
Folding furniture is the most radical form of flexible furnishing: it exists on demand. The chair hangs on the wall like a picture until guests arrive. The table is a flat strip until it’s time to eat. The desk disappears when the workday ends. You can tell good folding furniture by one thing: folded shut, you don’t hide it – you show it. And that is exactly where design parts ways with camping gear. The Fläpps family is conceived this way from the ground up: two centimetres flat, no clamping mechanics, with surfaces that belong on a wall.
Flexible furniture systems: Fläpps on the wall, Curt on the floor
Two systems, one principle: Fläpps organises the wall – folding chairs, tables, desks, shelves, coat racks. Curt organises the floor – a sofa system made from a single module shape that takes on any form and gives it up again. Flexible furniture systems means: both grow, shrink and change with you – good on their own, together a complete living concept for people who would rather not commit.
Flexible furniture for small spaces
Small rooms are furnishing’s honesty test: every square metre has to justify itself. Flexible furniture for small spaces resolves the dilemma without making your home look like sacrifice – the bedroom becomes an office by day (wall desk), the kitchen gets a table without a footprint (wall table), and the hallway a coat rack that only shows its hooks when needed (wall coat rack). Living small doesn’t mean living with less. Just smarter.
From folding chair to wall desk
A quick tour of the range of possibilities: folding chairs that wait on the wall as pictures. wall-mounted folding tables for kitchen and everyday life. folding wall shelves that fold flat in theory and carry everything in practice. Wall desks for a home office that knows when to call it a day. And for the floor: the flexible sofa that is allowed to be a different one every week.
